Created by Oscar Ortega in November of 2004, the title, "Entre Ventana Y Puerta" (Between a Window and a Door) refers to the coast (Tijuana doesn't have a port, only a "window" to the world) and the door refers to the United States border.
The piece stands as a monument to the culture of Tijuana: a mix of indigenous and modern symbols, a city of travelers, family struggle, international labor and commerce, and all of it trapped in a corner at the edge of the world.

"On October 4th, 2001, I decided to shoot some test footage. Little did I know, I would be reported to the FBI as a suspected terrorist. The caller reported my license plate number and described "a man of Middle Eastern appearance taking pictures of bridges in Albany, New York." I must have passed a bridge or two, shooting video from the window of my neglected Nissan Sentra. But in the mind of the racially profiling tipster, my appearance sealed the deal. As the product of Anglo and Latino parents, some say I can pass for either. And now, officially, Middle Eastern. Of particular interest to my work, aside from the increase in false FBI tips after September 11th, was the plethora of U.S. flags painting the social landscape. News, businesses, homes, cars, children. I had never seen anything like it. It reminded me of the Nazi flag forced on the Von Trapp family in The Sound of Music. There, the flag meant a militant pledge of allegiance to the Motherland. To risk not displaying it could have led to imprisonment or even death. Here, the flag embodied the blood of the Passover lamb, marking the door posts of U.S. society. To not display it might have risked a visit from the Angel of Death, or in my case, the FBI."")
